Medical Disclaimer
READ THIS DISCLAIMER BEFORE USE. BY PURCHASING OR USING ANY SKINSCIENCE PRODUCT, YOU REPRESENT THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS DISCLAIMER AND THAT YOU EXPRESSLY ASSUME ALL RISK OF USE.
SkinScience sells topical cosmetic/OTC skincare products (including exfoliating formulas containing alpha hydroxy acids such as lactic and glycolic acid) and ingestible dietary supplements (including the Bronze Protocol). SkinScience products are not prescription drugs or medical devices. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, injury, or medical condition. Statements made by SkinScience, on the Site, in product packaging, or in advertising have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new skincare regimen or dietary supplement.
1. No medical advice; not a substitute for medical care
The content on byskinscience.com — including but not limited to product descriptions, advertising, blog posts, prelander articles, illustrations, customer reviews, testimonials, customer-service correspondence, and any other content of any kind — is provided for general informational and cosmetic-care purposes only. None of it is medical advice. It is not a substitute for the diagnosis, treatment, or recommendation of a qualified healthcare provider, dermatologist, or physician familiar with your medical history. Do not disregard, delay, or modify medical care or advice because of anything you read on the Site or in any SkinScience material. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
2. FDA status; no medical claim
SkinScience products have not been evaluated, cleared, or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. No statement or claim made by SkinScience, the Site, advertising materials, customer-service personnel, or any third party is intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease, injury, or medical condition, including without limitation acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, melasma, hyperpigmentation, keratosis pilaris, photoaging, or any disorder of the skin. Our topical products are offered as general cosmetic skincare, and our ingestible products are offered as dietary supplements intended to support general wellness. Any use of any product to treat a disease or medical condition is at your sole risk.
3. Results not typical; testimonials
Testimonials, reviews, before-and-after stories, customer quotes, and other endorsements on the Site or in advertising reflect individual experiences and are not representative of typical results. Many factors outside SkinScience's control influence results, including age, skin type, lifestyle, diet, sun exposure, underlying skin condition, adherence to the recommended protocol, concurrent care, and natural variation. SkinScience makes no representation, warranty, or guarantee, express or implied, that you will experience any specific result, benefit, or outcome. Any depiction of mechanism, anatomy, or before/after appearance is a simplified educational illustration, not a diagnostic image or a claim of effect in any specific user.
4. Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) — sun sensitivity warning
Sunburn Alert: Certain SkinScience topical products contain an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using these products and for a week afterward. This warning applies to any product containing lactic acid, glycolic acid, or other AHAs.
5. Who should NOT use SkinScience
Do not use the applicable SkinScience product if any of the following applies to you. These lists are illustrative and are not exhaustive. You are solely responsible for determining whether use of a given product is safe for you.
5.1 Topical skincare products (exfoliants, serums, creams)
- You are allergic or sensitive to lactic acid, glycolic acid, any other alpha or beta hydroxy acid, or any other active or inactive ingredient, preservative, fragrance, or solvent listed on the product packaging. Patch-test on a small area of skin 24 hours before broader use.
- You have open wounds, cuts, abrasions, cracked or broken skin, active cold sores, oozing lesions, blisters, sunburn, windburn, or waxed or freshly shaved skin in or adjacent to the area of intended use.
- You have active eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, or any inflammatory or compromised skin condition flaring in the area of intended use.
- You are pregnant, believe you may be pregnant, or are nursing — consult a healthcare provider before using exfoliating acids.
- You are under 18 years of age.
- You are concurrently using prescription retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene), benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, other exfoliating acids, chemical peels, or professional resurfacing treatments, unless your treating dermatologist has expressly cleared concurrent use.
- You have recently undergone a chemical peel, laser treatment, microdermabrasion, microneedling, or other resurfacing procedure in the area of intended use.
- You intend to apply the product anywhere other than the intended external skin area — for example on the eyes, eyelids, lips, inside the mouth or nose, ears, mucous membranes, genitals, or broken skin.
- Any product container is damaged, leaking, has broken seals, or has a different appearance, odor, or consistency than expected.
5.2 Ingestible dietary supplements (Bronze Protocol and any other ingestible product)
- You are allergic or sensitive to beta-carotene, carotenoids, or any other listed ingredient, filler, flavoring, coloring, or excipient.
- You currently smoke, formerly smoked, or have had significant asbestos exposure. High-dose beta-carotene supplementation has been associated in clinical studies with an increased risk of lung cancer in smokers and people exposed to asbestos. Do not use without the express clearance of your physician.
- You are pregnant, believe you may be pregnant, or are nursing.
- You are under 18 years of age.
- You have liver disease, kidney disease, a bleeding disorder, or any chronic medical condition.
- You take any prescription medication — including anticoagulants ("blood thinners"), statins, or medications affecting the liver — without first confirming with your physician or pharmacist that there is no interaction.
- You have a scheduled surgery within two (2) weeks, or you have been instructed by a clinician to stop supplements before a procedure.
- You have a condition that causes carotenemia or difficulty metabolizing carotenoids.
If you have any chronic medical condition, are taking any medication, or have any doubt about whether use of a SkinScience product is safe for you, do not use it. Consult your physician, dermatologist, or pharmacist first.
6. Safe-use requirements
6.1 Topical products
- Read the complete product packaging and any printed instructions before first use.
- Patch-test on a small area of skin 24 hours before broader use, and discontinue if any redness, itching, burning, swelling, or rash develops.
- Use the product only as directed, at the recommended frequency and concentration. More frequent use or higher layering does not improve results and increases the risk of irritation.
- Use daily broad-spectrum SPF and limit sun exposure while using AHA products and for a week afterward (see Section 4).
- Stop using the product immediately if you experience burning, stinging beyond a brief initial tingle, pain, swelling, blistering, persistent redness, or any unexpected reaction, and consult a healthcare provider.
- Keep the product away from the eyes, mouth, nostrils, and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, flush with water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
- Do not modify, dilute, decant, or combine the product with other topical actives without express clearance from your healthcare provider.
6.2 Ingestible products
- Read the Supplement Facts panel and directions before first use.
- Do not exceed the recommended serving. More is not better; excess carotenoid intake can cause harmless skin-yellowing (carotenemia) and, at high doses, other effects.
- Take with food unless directed otherwise.
- Discontinue and consult a healthcare provider if you experience nausea, digestive upset, rash, or any unexpected reaction.
- Do not use as a substitute for a varied diet, sun protection, or medical care.
For all products: keep out of reach of children and pets. In case of accidental ingestion of a topical product, or overdose of an ingestible product, contact a poison control center (in the US: 1-800-222-1222) or seek emergency medical attention. Discontinue use if any contraindication arises or is later diagnosed.
7. Assumption of risk
BY PURCHASING OR USING ANY SKINSCIENCE PRODUCT, YOU EXPRESSLY ASSUME ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH ITS USE OR MISUSE, including but not limited to risks of allergic reaction, contact dermatitis, chemical irritation or burn, stinging, redness, peeling, dryness, post-inflammatory pigmentation, increased sun sensitivity and sunburn, digestive upset, carotenemia, aggravation of existing conditions, new injury, and any other risk, whether or not foreseeable. You acknowledge that the Site, product packaging, marketing, advertising, and customer-service materials contain general information only, and you accept full responsibility for evaluating whether a given product is suitable for your individual circumstances.
8. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SkinScience, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, suppliers, licensors, and assigns from and against any and all claims, demands, suits, proceedings, liabilities, losses, damages, judgments, fines, penalties, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use, misuse, or inability to use any SkinScience product; (b) your failure to comply with this Medical Disclaimer or the instructions on the product packaging; (c) the use of the product by any person for whom it is contraindicated; (d) any condition you have or develop, regardless of causation; or (e) any injury, harm, or loss to any third party in connection with your use of the product. See also the Terms of Service, Section 13.
9. No warranty of safety, efficacy, or fitness
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SkinScience disclaims all warranties, express or implied, regarding the safety, efficacy, fitness for any particular purpose, or therapeutic effect of any SkinScience product. The remedies available to you are described solely in the Refund & Returns Policy. No employee, contractor, or agent of SkinScience has authority to make any additional representation or warranty, oral or written, regarding the medical, therapeutic, dermatological, nutritional, or cosmetic effects of any product.
10. Adverse-event reporting
If you experience any adverse event — including but not limited to allergic reaction, chemical burn, persistent skin irritation, contact dermatitis, severe redness, swelling, blistering, sunburn, digestive upset, or any other unexpected condition — in connection with your use of a SkinScience product:
- Stop using the product immediately.
- For a topical, wash the area with mild soap and water; for an ingestible, discontinue and hydrate. Seek medical attention as needed.
- Report the event to safety@byskinscience.com with your order number, the lot/batch number from the product packaging (if available), a description of the event, and any photographs or medical documentation you wish to provide.
Submitting an adverse-event report does not give rise to any settlement, payment, admission of liability, or assumption of responsibility by SkinScience. We may use information in adverse-event reports for product-safety review, regulatory compliance, and any other lawful purpose.
11. International users
SkinScience products are intended for sale and use in the United States. Regulatory classification of cosmetic, OTC topical, and dietary supplement products varies by country. Use of any product outside the United States is at your own risk, and you are solely responsible for compliance with the laws, regulations, and customs of your jurisdiction. SkinScience disclaims any obligation to comply with non-US cosmetic, OTC drug, dietary supplement, consumer-product, or import regulations.
12. Choice of law and disputes
This Medical Disclaimer is governed by, and any dispute relating to it is subject to, the choice-of-law, arbitration, class-action-waiver, jury-trial-waiver, and one-year-limitation provisions of our Terms of Service, which are incorporated here by reference.
13. Changes
We may modify this Medical Disclaimer at any time, in our sole discretion, with or without prior notice. The Disclaimer in effect at the time of your use governs your use.
14. Acknowledgement
By purchasing or using any SkinScience product, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Medical Disclaimer; that you assume all risk of use; that you indemnify SkinScience as set forth above; and that you have not relied on any representation or statement not expressly contained in this Disclaimer and our other posted policies. If you do not agree, do not purchase or use any SkinScience product, and return any product you may have already received under the Refund & Returns Policy.
